Our Process

Now, we know that all pain is not the same, just as all chest pain is not the same. When a person goes to the emergency room with chest pain, he or she expects to be evaluated by a specialist who will recognize the pain pattern to differentiate between indigestion and a heart attack (which drives the decision of TUMS versus nitroglycerine.) Likewise, successful treatment for an episode of low back pain must match the type of pain you have. ProActive therapists have experience evaluating clients with musculoskeletal pain, allowing us to quickly and efficiently recognize even complex patterns.

ProActive therapists use an Evidence-Based Treatment (EBT) approach to treat problems with muscles, tissues, and joints. EBT simply means that we stay up-to-date on clinical research and use the treatment techniques that have been shown to be most effective for each specific type of back pain.

We also follow a biopsychosocial approach, which means we understand that it’s not always just an issue with the tissues. Pain, especially musculoskeletal pain, often involves not only muscles and bones, but also nervous system & social/emotional components that must also be addressed in order to promote long-lasting relief and self-management of symptoms.
